The Ambassador
Acrylic and Alkyd on Canvas
29″ x 89″
2016
I made this anamorphic piece for a group exhibition in Cincinnati about revealing and concealing. Riffing on Hans Holbein the Younger’s 1533 masterpiece The Ambassadors. To assert its contemporaneity I used cheap fluorescent paints and built a parallelogram stretcher to suggest that the stretcher itself had been…stretched. From the correct vantage point, like Holbein’s painting, a human-like skull is revealed.
