Joe Hedges’s solo exhibition, “Sound Waves Set Off A Starry Accompaniment,” (声波挑动星辰协奏 ) is now on view at Enclave Contemporary through September 3.

Joe Hedges’ imagery draws inspiration from art historical oil paintings, with echoes of Caravaggio’s dramatic and visceral compositions interwoven throughout. While references to Carracci and archetypal figures from art history abound, they are fragmented and refracted through the kaleidoscope of our bewildering contemporary world. Figures seem out of time, intertwined, falling apart, disrupted or stretched digitally. These characters poignantly reflect the disembodied and distorted nature of our online existence, where identities become anonymous or meticulously curated. In a world where artifice governs existence, Hedges invites us to confront the dissonance between the real and the constructed.
